Experience: 2 yrs
My exposure to Alzheimer's disease began when I was 7 years old, when my family moved in with my great grandmother during the last two years of her life. I learned how to help her with daily activities such as bathing and dressing. I've always been very appreciative of having that lived experience from such a young age, it normalized aging, cognitive decline, and caregiving for me. As a board certified genetic counselor, I have worked with individuals and families affected by neurodegenerative conditions such as Parkinson's disease. More recently, I spent several months living with a family friend to help after their mother's Alzheimer's diagnosis. I assisted with the transition away from driving, accompanied her to medical appointments, organized medications, and provided day to day support. I believe in meeting people where they are, preserving their independence, and following their lead. My goal is to provide dependable care that helps people feel safe, heard, and supported.
