As my mother's primary care-giver for the last decade of her life, I found the level of compassionate care available sorely lacking in respect, compassion and, for lack of a better word - fun. Life should be lived and celebrated, through all of it's stages. Yes, care must be taken and abilities change but that shouldn't preclude living as normal a life as can be constructed around the physical, mental and emotional limitations of aging and the myriad of challenges accompanying the blessing of a long life. As a professional CNA, I am well adept providing the support to carry out ADL's, range of motion, and therapeutic activities. I provide preventative care to avoid skin breakdown and falls. I am experienced with dementia, orthopedic rehab, stroke, advanced aging, and most other geriatric conditions. My years in long-term facilities have re-affirmed that the best place to live is home. Keeping it safe, clean, comfortable and productive make that practical, and in the long-run, the best value. I believe adults deserve the dignity and respect to self-determine their daily lives and know better than anyone else what and how to achieve that, within the directives of their medical professionals. I live by the edict, "Above all, due no harm." I cook and clean and shop and deliver care to the client's preferences. I am equipped for light DIY home repairs and simple fix-its that keep the home safe, clean and pleasant. I am not idle when working.
