Rey has never hesitated to go above and beyond and do tasks without being tasked, like organization, cleaning up, and even doing laundry. Cleanliness and organization are among Rey’s silent superpowers. Beyond keeping play areas neat and tidy, and teaching my daughter the pride of putting away her toys with patient guidance, Rey has kept my kitchen and entire home immaculate. When I was called suddenly and had to fly out with my daughter without notice to help my sister with a health emergency, Rey even stayed behind and cleaned up my entire house, put away food and clothes, and locked up my home for me so, in their words, I would have “one less thing to worry about”. Communication flows seamlessly. Rey sends me lots of pictures and updates throughout the day’s adventures with my daughter and shares their location, so I always feel safe. They maintain consistent closed loop communication, so I always know where they are, what they are up do, and never have to worry. When Rey is with my daughter, I always feel fully connected to my daughter’s day, even when I’m away. Perhaps most remarkable is Rey’s unwavering patience and empathy. When we first arrived in Iowa City, bathtime became a nightly struggle—new bathroom, new routines, endless tears. Rey never flinched. Night after night, they coaxed my daughter into the tub with kind words, gentle reassurance, and the cutest froggy shower head, patiently encouraging my daughter to overcome the anxiety of a new home and new bath setup.
