About Katie

As the eldest sibling in my family, I have always had a knack for taking care of little ones. I began babysitting for several families while in high school. The children I watched at this time ranged in age from 6 months to 11 years old. Hence, the skills I mastered varied from diaper changing to after-school homework help. During the summers of 2010-2011, I was a nanny for a family with three children ages 7, 10, and 12. The kids were actively involved in sports and various camps, thus I was responsible for managing their schedules and providing safe transportation. In their down time, we would make "upcycling" crafts, ride bikes, or go to the park. The most valuable experience I had was caring for their middle child- a bubbly boy who was on the autism spectrum. I value the patience and creativity I learned in working with him. I also was responsible for light cleaning and meal prep. In my time as a WMU student, I have been a tutor for the Kalamazoo Youth Development Center.
