About Katie

I am an environmental scientist with a master's degree in Biology and experience teaching students from elementary school through college undergrad. I specialize in marine science and ecology and am passionate about helping students build confidence, curiosity, and critical thinking skills while connecting learning topics to real-world scientific and environmental issues. I like tutoring because I enjoy helping students discover that science is more than just memorizing facts; it's a way to understand the world around us. I believe anyone can be a scientist. You don't have to have all the answers, just a curiosity to ask questions and explore our beautiful planet. I started tutoring through my business, Oceans at Elevation and have years of educational experience through graduate school, volunteering at my local nature centers, and working for scientific nonprofits. In my spare time, I like to hike, camp, scuba dive, spend time with friends, do macrophotography, and read.
