About Julianna

As a first-generation college graduate and the daughter of Latino immigrants, my tutoring prioritizes empathy and cultural knowledge. After forgetting my Spanish as a child, I vowed to relearn the language in high school. I exceeded my own expectations when I earned myself a 4 on the AP Spanish Literature Exam. That experience not only convinced me to pursue a Spanish major, but it also influenced my decision to study Portuguese and declare a Portuguese minor. In the Fall of 2022, I began working as a Spanish tutor for the Spanish and Portuguese Department at Macalester College. The next year, I began working as a Portuguese tutor on top of my role as a Spanish tutor. Upon graduating, I completed three years of Spanish tutoring and two years of Portuguese tutoring. I believe that language learning requires not only a strong level of meticulousness and a willingness to make mistakes, but also the cultural knowledge that only native speakers and members of the Latino diaspora have.
