About John

I'm a good communicator. A collaborator. I have a BA (Psychology) from Harvard. I have two teenage sons who've just graduated from high school. Basically I love learning! I'd describe my personality as kind, humorous and encouraging. I like tutoring because learning invigorates me. I like revisiting old things and taking new approaches. I get a jolt out of seeing a kid 'get it', when they start thinking laterally to draw analogies to real-world experiences. I'm looking for a job that involves 1-on-1 teamwork. A job where confidence is a measure of progress. A job where success can be measured and the process becomes its own reward. I started tutoring when I did volunteer work at a hospital, and more recently, at a shelter for troubled teens. In my spare time, I like to cook, read, hike, travel and spend time with my kids. One thing you should know about me is I have published over 50 pieces of fiction. My skills include writing, reading comprehension and social studies.
