I truly enjoy working with kids with special needs. I currently am an adoption worker for children in foster care, and the majority of my "kiddos" are older children with cognitive impairments (IQ's in the 40's-80's). I tend to gravitate towards children with language impairments as well, and have conversational Sign Language skills, as well as the ability to utilize picture boards or alternative speech apps. I plan on going back to school in the near future to be an Occupational Therapist. My 8-year-old daughter has special medical needs, and I've helped her achieve remission from neurological issues through interventions from OT, PT, speech, and behavioral health. I am comfortable with medication management, giving injections, managing complicated therapy/appointment schedules. I've also helped provide care for people with diabetes, downs syndrome, Aspergers and Autism, ADHD, and Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders. I look forward to learning more about your child, and whether I could assist in meeting their needs. I believe kids with special needs still need to experience all the joys of childhood, and look forward to finding out about your child's' interests.
