I have been working with intellectually and developmentally disabled adults for 3 years in total. I started out doing in-home care when I was 18 and then later worked in a group home at age 19. Currently, I am 29 and working as a Direct Support Professional in a residential home as of February 2024. I have experience with autistic individuals, individuals with down syndrome, and other developmental delays. The residents I work with currently are all non-verbal. I am used to working with people who need a higher level of physical care. I am a patient person and don't take tougher behaviors personally. I see it as someone expressing their needs. I am thorough with my cares, and I will definitely ask questions to clarify and make sure I understand what needs to be done. I am big on communication as it makes things easier for everyone. :)
