As a young adult, I was excited to have children of my own, but I never expected my first to be born with special mental and medical needs. Ayla will be turning seven this summer. I have been her advocate through surgeries, doctor and therapist changes and so much more. Being blessed to be her mother has been the most beautiful and eye opening experience. Working with her as a part of a team alongside her doctors, therapists, teachers, etc. has enlightened me to the many facets that are considered in child development and education. Her non-verbal autism has been influential in growing my patience and learning to read individuals as more than what is seen on the surface.
