About Hannah

Since July 2022, I've owned and operated the outdoor preschool Back Porch Playgroup at my home. The program is play-based which allows children the freedom to choose what activities to pursue. That can range from swinging, digging in the sand, cooking in the mud kitchen, building with blocks, playing pretend or making art. I have an architecture degree from North Carolina State University (NCSU) which informs my approach to fostering creativity, problem-solving and self-directed learning with children. Connection is my guiding principle for discipline. Helping children compromise, identify their emotions and finding healthy ways to express them. Conscious Discipline is a guiding force. I do my best to be a gender-inclusive ally and anti-racist. I also take a keen interest in supporting children of different neuro-types. I've stayed home full-time since December 2012, homeschooling my two school-age kids & caring for children of friends.
