I have experience caring for an elderly woman with Ataxia, which is a condition characterized by a lack of muscle coordination, leading to clumsy movements that can affect walking, balance, speech, and fine motor skills. She also had a hip injury and surgery, so I have helped care for her in that recovery. I hold her with a gate belt while she walks, assist her with showers, give her massage, make her lunch, and provide loving companionship. Additionally, I have experience caring for an elderly man with Atypical Parkinson's (PSP). He is cognitively aware, however does not have much muscle control. I shower, shave, and dress him. He does BM's in the toilet which I assist with and uses a hand-held urinal that I empty and clean during the day. I help him get out of bed and into his wheelchair to have breakfast. I do all transfers with him through the day with my strength and a gate belt. I make him meals and snacks, then I get him into bed and put on a condom catheter.
