I began this new experience by caring for my father. My father was diagnosed with prostate cancer. I cared for him in his final days with general basic daily needs, cooking, administering medicine, daily activities. My father passed in 2009 and I relocated to California from Alabama. My first opportunity to care for a senior in need began in 2011 when called upon after being recommended by a friend, to care for a stroke victim with left side paralysis. I provided total care which included administering medications, preparing meals, bathing in bed (client bedridden at the time), communicating with in home health care providers, replenishing prescription meds as needed. Fortunately, client recovered from the stroke and was able to function on her own. My second experience was for a senior who had fallen and laid on the floor for 3 days before help arrived. Client was home from the hospital and needed assistance to regain strength and feel confident at being alone once again. My duties included cleaning, cooking, administering medications (including drawing of insulin), replenishing of prescription medications. This client gained the ability to be self sufficient.
