I'm passionate about people. I've spent the last year working as an ESL instructor to children ages 5-13 in an online classroom. Prior to that I worked as a babysitter to three different families in Chicago. I was also a live-in mommy helper for my sister for the first two years of both of my niece's lives. I've also taught swim lessons to students aged 2-13. My combined experience with children spans over 6+ years. Communication and trust are qualities that I value when working with a family, and I look for families that equally value these qualities. I have a strong background in creative writing, so I like to spend a lot of time reading with the children I babysit for. I also really enjoy being out of doors, so I take every opportunity I get to spend some time outdoors with them (always with a healthy dose of sunscreen! :). I have known Elisabeth since September 2013 when I hired her to be personal assistant for my handicapped son. At that time I told her of his favorite activities and that I expected her to keep the wheels turning in his head while respecting his need to have some control over his life. Starting with these basic instructions and her own creativity and initiative Elisabeth has done a wonderful job with my son and exceeded my expectations. Keeping the wheels turning. Elisabeth engages my son to interact with his environment. She has used creative methods drawing from her wide range of life experiences to improve his fine motor, communication, cognitive and social skills. Elisabeth has shown good judgment balancing challenging my son while allowing him reasonable control over his life. Elisabeth created at her own expense and initiative a picture book of places he enjoys visiting so he can choose where they go on their outings. Elisabeth has an excellent work ethic. She is always on time, has worked long hours when necessary, is well organized, and keeps excellent records. Elisabeth is consistently, polite, good natured, well dressed and positive in her attitude.
