I believe that everyone should be given the chance to reach their maximum potential one should always put a person before their disability regardless of the severity when working with people who have special needs you need to remember to set goals and have patience. it is important to remember persistence pays off, don't give up if no progress is made at first, it may come in small steps, but it will be just as rewarding when the goal is met. Communication is the key to success if a client is not verbal it is important that I find another way to communicate with them. I will try to reduce or eliminate any negative behaviors that may be present. Knowing the needs and capabilities of a person will help me to find new ways to stimulate the learning process. Participation may not always come willingly so engaging the interest of the client can be helpful when trying to complete a task.
