Two of my three nephews who I raised and are now in their twenties have special needs including Tourette's syndrome, Asperger's syndrome, autism, adhd, odd, and are on the spectrum. Learning how to navigate the complexities of their conditions proved challenging at times but far more rewarding with the realization that labels do not adequately encapsulate who they are as individuals. I have 20 years experience caring for them and tutoring students with adhd, ocd, and odd. I am a licensed chha in the state of NJ and through my work as chha I have been exposed to many medical conditions like ALS and Parkinson's and gained invaluable experience as a caregiver in those areas with things like hygiene, infection control, using medical equipment properly, gtube feeding etc.
