About Catherine

I am a certified teacher who has been working the past 25 years as a reading intervention teacher/reading teacher grades K-5. I delight in helping children learn phonics, become confident readers, and enjoy literature. I'm trained in the Fontis and Pinnel reading program (Fundations phonics program) used by most schools. My passion is teaching reading and enjoying books with children. I teach essential skills like vocabulary, inferential thinking, sequence of events, character's feelings, finding themes in books and life lessons. Reading and writing go hand in hand. I also enjoy helping children with writing while infusing grammar skills as they learn to write complete sentences and paragraphs. I teach in person and am presently teaching a few students remotely. I also like to have fun! I enjoy playing games, and use fun activities to help reinforce reading skills. Children who love to read will be lifelong learners. My end goal is to help children become lifelong readers.
