About Carmen

Hi! I'm Carmen, and I'm so excited to get to know you and your kids! Helping young people grow as learners and community members has always brought me joy. As a teen, I was the "kid magnet" at community events and a peer tutor. In college, I was a resident assistant and worked at a Native cultural camp for tribal youth, and now I teach ESL for 5th grade ELA and 8th grade civics. I studied outdoor education for two years at Colorado Mountain College before earning my bachelor's in Critical Race and Ethnic Studies. I love building relationships with kids and families from diverse backgrounds and embrace "learning by doing," whether that's reading, identifying plants on a nature walk, or apologizing to a friend. I'm comfortable with toddlers to teens and can care for up to four kids. I'm CPR certified and have taken wilderness medicine courses, so I'm prepared to keep kids safe at home and outdoors. I'm also happy to help with cooking, housekeeping, and errands.
