Helping students succeed is what I am all about. In my 6 years of working in schools, I have loved getting to teach students and show them how to have a growth mindset. When we make a mistake, that doesn't mean we are dumb, in fact making mistakes is one of the best ways to learn. With practice and help, even things that are difficult or that we aren't very good at yet, can become easier and we can master them. One of my favorite routines as a teacher is when I get to sit down with a small group of students that need specific help, and help them according to their needs. After finishing a unit on 2-digit addition, many of my second graders still needed extra help, so even though we had to move on to the next unit, I used 20 minutes daily for small groups. Through this, I increased the percentage of students proficient from 40% to 90% in 2 weeks.
