About Caitlin Jean

Hi, I'm Caitlin! I am a Bay Area native, outdoor educator, and naturalist with 20 years of professional experience with children from infancy through teens, my expertise being ages 2-6. I hold a Teaching Permit in ECE, current CPR certification, and a B. A. in Liberal Studies from Sonoma State, where my coursework emphasized social justice. I spent 15 years as a preschool teacher in Berkeley, and taught kindergarten in Thailand. My professional home has been a 3-acre working school farm, where I bring children into living outdoor classrooms. My style is firm but lighthearted. I believe children need clear boundaries to feel safe, held with a flexible mind and willingness to be curious alongside them. I am aligned with the Reggio Emilia philosophy and model a love of learning by saying "I wonder..." and "I'm curious about..." I love bird identification, cooking, foraging, and storytelling. I believe childhood should involve dirt, curiosity, and really good food.
