My experience caring for those with special needs was as a therapeutic staff support worker for 2 years. A therapeutic support staff workers are responsible for providing one-on-one mental health services to children and young adults with special needs. TSS workers provide services in schools, in the child's home or in the community. A TSS worker helps children achieve outlined in treatment plans. TSS workers may use various techniques, including role play, social rehearsal, verbal prompting and conflict resolution. I mostly worked with children from ages 3-21 who were diagnosed with ADHD and autism. I am passionate about working with those with special needs because working in disability services, I have a profound impact on someone's life. I am providing care and support to someone who needs it most and helping them to become more independent and confident in their own abilities. Every day is a chance to do something different and make a difference.
