Experience: 10 yrs
My dear mother spent 16 years in an assisted living facility after suffering a stroke. Over the years, in addition to disabilities from the stroke, she was afflicted with Alzheimer's. In the beginning years I was able to take her out for drives and short shopping excursions, but eventually her physical limitations precluded that. By then I was retired and was able to visit her every day. I would always take simple projects, but what she enjoyed most was coloring. I would take dozens and dozens of sharpened colored pencils and coloring. books. Mom and I would sit elbow to elbow coloring with three or four other ladies at the table joining in. The wonderful caregivers took care of mom's physical needs, so I was able to enjoy just getting to spend time with her a few hours every day. What a privilege. I have a heart for senior citizens and would love to be a companion/helper when needed.
