About Bernice
Experience: 10 yrs
My dear mother spent 16 years in an assisted living facility after suffering a stroke. Over the years, in addition to disabilities from the stroke, she was afflicted with Alzheimer's. In the beginning years I was able to take her out for drives and short shopping excursions, but eventually her physical limitations precluded that. By then I was retired and was able to visit her every day. The wonderful caregivers took care of mom's physical needs, so I was able to enjoy just getting to spend time with her a few hours every day. What a privilege. For the past 2 1/2 years I have been a companion/caregiver for four dear ladies with various stages of dementia. We go grocery shopping, to any appointments they might have, or find lovely places to take a walk. Sometimes we just sit and talk for a while. And I keep in close contact with family members if I'm noticing any health or safety issues. I have a heart for senior citizens and would love to be a companion/helper when needed.
