Back in Brazil I was a Biology teacher and had my first contacts with special needs kids which helped me to get prepared to work as a real caregiver here in the US. I was an Aupair in New York of a 13 years old boy diagnosed with Angelman Syndrome. I helped him throughout the day with change of diapers, meal prep (keto diet), driving him around, bath time, feeding him, playing with him and taking him to the pool. He's a non verbal kid but at the end I couldn't even spot that because we had such an amazing connection that I could truly communicate to him all day long and on that way he completely made me love what I do even more as I couldn't feel more special to know that I was able to understand what his needs were even though he couldn't speak it to me.

Barbara is very mature, fun, intelligent and dependable. I know her very well as she was our Au pair for several months. She took care of my three boys including my multiply disabled son who is non-verbal, has a seizure disorder, and is on a medically prescribed special diet. She always gave him his medication on time and learned his diet well enough to create her own meals for him. She developed a beautiful relationship with him, she believed in him and taught him several new things on her own initiative. It takes someone very special to do that! She was always interested in taking the boys new places, even if it meant more preparation and work for her. She engaged the boys and had fun with them. She has a big heart, a lot of patience and lots of love. She is a gem!
