"If you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree it will live its whole life thinking that it is stupid." I have seen so many students beat themselves up over this way of thinking. I have been working with students since before my PRE-step days. I have tutored k-12, college, test prep (math) and even things like excel. I think of math like a language; the younger you get a foundation in it, the easier it is to go through life speaking it. When you're trying to get that foundation later it is harder, but NOT impossible. I tutor each student differently and work on learning what works for them and how to help them keep the skills even after the tutoring. Confidence is key along with other soft skills. I can tutor anything from fraction to pre-calculus and beyond. Earth science to chemistry. If your student is willing so am I, and if they aren't, that's okay! We'll work on it together!
