I like working with kids because they keep me on my toes and I love building a connection with children and learning something new each and everyday. I'm looking for a job that has a loving family who is consistent, & caring. I started working with kids when I was 16 years old in a daycare setting , I have nannied multiple families and worked in childcare for a little over 4 years now! In my spare time, I like to hang out with friends. Go on adventures, sleep and go on walks! One thing you should know about me is I am a hard worker and am super understanding, I will always go out of my way for a child and their families & I am always willing to take on new tasks. My skills include caregiving for a child, being compassionate & loving.
We thought Amanda was a wonderful, caring and attentive part time nanny to our son on every other weekend. Unfortunately it only lasted about 4 months, as my husbands job changed so our available hours for needing a nanny went down- which we said was temporary while he trained, and we could not afford to raise her pay to much more above our original agreement. She never asked for a raise, but when we mentioned picking up more hours if she was interested, she said her rate on her "off weekends" was $6 more per hour than her current rate of pay... We gave her more hours on a few date nights and had a higher set rate of pay for holiday weekends like memorial day, but despite a $2/hr increase overall, and continued thank yous, a small nanny gift and us asking how things are going or if she needs anything from us, etc, we lost her services abruptly via text message the day after she had just worked for us. She said she received an offer of employment at a higher rate with more hours, which is understandable, but I wish she had expressed her need for more hours, and a bigger increase so we could have discussed her staying with us. Had she mentioned a dire need for increased pay or hours we would have gladly discussed what we could do to try and keep her and us happy and financially secure. It was shocking to lose her so abruptly, as she never had any complaints, was very sweet to our son, followed the light toy and bottle cleanup we asked for- no other duties were required other than letting our 3 little dogs in and outside our fenced yard. She occasionally took our son on walks to the park at my request, played outside, and only if I asked, would update me on their day, and kept a note about his feedings/diapers/naps at my request which I had her send to me after her shift. All pretty standard nanny care. She stayed a little late a few times when I would get stuck at work with a late patient; which she had said was no problem. We always communicated if we were running late, and we agreed to pay her in her preferred way- cash. She lives right in our same town, so commute wasn't a problem. I did ask her to bathe our son a couple times after a messy or dirty day playing, and she was hesitant because she didn't have much experience with baths, but after I showed her everything and walked her through step by step how to do them easily with him, she said she was ok doing them. We have a very sweet, happy easy going baby/ now toddler, so I don't think he was the problem- I think she just wanted more money and neglected to communicate this with us. The main things I would have asked her to improve would be communicating her desire for more hours and higher pay better- if I don't know, I can't do anything about it. We're all struggling in a covid world with finances, and if you say you're happy, I will take you at your word, but continue to show our gratitude in bonuses (which I was about to give her at her 6 month mark) and birthdays, holidays etc. along with annual raises. We want our nanny to be like family, and I thought that was where we were headed. She's a young girl with a lot ahead of her, and I wish her the best. I just hope she learns to speak up more from this review. Also I would have liked more communicating about the day during the shift if she was ever struggling with our son or our dachshunds so I could provide insight or suggestions (they're loving but bark at everything)... and she almost always left the diaper genie full or over flowing... I mentioned it a couple times gently, but I never wanted to nit pick, so I just tried to be better at having it start out empty before her shift. In the end I want to say she was wonderful, and I would hire her again if she hadn't quit suddenly and left us hanging... but I can't depend on someone who would do that. Without cameras to see the interaction with our son to know for sure, I thought she was wonderful...I did see her talk to him a little impatiently after getting him up from a nap, (he's only one) he was playing in his crib, and she was trying to get him to nap again or reach up to come downstairs, and he sat down to play with his lovey so she said ok bye! and walked away and turned off the light, then he whined so she came back and said ugh huh that's what I thought... and got him and went downstairs. Idk maybe it was nothing, it just seemed like she was not patient that day.... nap training can be tough.... I just can't hide my surprise and disappointment in losing her abruptly to an unexpressed desire for more money. I now have to find another nanny to cover her weekends asap, as she said the new family w
