During my senior year of college, we were asked to pick a capstone class, a class that would integrate a field of studies related to prior coursework, and I chose to attend half a month at Mt. Hood Kiwanis Camp. MHKC allowed me to be a camp counselor, working one on one with a child for one week, and an adult with the other for 24/7. I was able to learn to effectively care and make a difference. This experience opened my eyes to the joy of service from working with people with special needs so much so that I dedicated my first full time job to working as a Job Coach for people with cerebral palsy, autism, down syndrome and other developmental disabilities.
