It's tough to watch your kid struggle in school or not excell. From personal experience, parents don't always know how to help. I have a daughter on the spectrum that has 7 learning challenges, including dyslexia. She is excelling in middle school, but that wasn't always the case. At the time of her greatest struggle in elementary, I was working as a middle school paraprofessional helping many other students through their difficulties, but my own daughter was very resistant to my help. It turns out it was my turn to be educated on how to be a supportive mom, and not her around the clock tutor. I stepped back and let other people in. Our relationship improved. She came around, allowing me to help, and now she's a very independent learner and our relationship is great! While I have tutored all ages and levels, even adults. I feel I'm the most effective and enjoy elementary and middle school students, and those with developmental delays and learning disabilities.
