University Trained Senior Caregiver Available Full-Time

Avg response < 4 hrs
I have provided Senior care for the past 10 plus years here in the Portola Valley, Woodside and the Palo Alto areas. I have also been successful at taking assignments outside of this area (Southern California) and making myself available for assignments that require some travel. The first five years of my experience were spent as a private duty for a nationally known author and beloved member of this community residing at the Sequoias. Since then, I have enjoyed the privilege of serving as an In-home care provider throughout the surrounding communities. I have provided all aspects of personal care including: ADLs, meals, physical therapy exercises, transportation, doctor visits, music therapy, poetry, and recreational entertainment. Along with providing general companionship, my duties include journaling, correspondence, shopping, wardrobe maintenance, housekeeping, and bill pay. My special interests include Music Ministry, Writing and Psychology for which I hold a Degree from U. C. B.

In our search for a caregiver (for our 93 y/o mom) Alyce was a breath of fresh air! She was always on time, and so clean! We can tell that care-giving for elderly is her passion; her first concern was for our mother. She did crossword puzzles with her, recited poetry, and always kept her engaged, with a smile. (Side note: what a wonderful laugh Alyce has!) We were fortunate to have found her.

Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) and Certified Home Health Aide (CHHA)

For eight months, I served as the primary care giver under the Hospice of Maine for both of my parents, who passed away from lung cancer. I took care of everything for them including keeping them to a strict medication schedule that included full-time oxygen use and breathing treatments, purchasing and preparing meals, all housekeeping, transporting them to and from appointments, and helping them to perform personal hygiene tasks. Having benefited from hospice at a time when I and my parents needed support the most, I wanted to give back to the cause and so have been a Patient Volunteer for San Diego Hospice and the Institute for Palliative Medicine since June, 2010. My experiences there inspired me to change my career from being a middle school educator, to devoting the rest of my life to helping seniors live in a safe, healthy environment where their personal needs and dignity come first. I underwent an intensive, four-month CNA and CHHA training through Escondido ROP's Adult Education center, and received my certifications in May, 2011. Since then, I took care of two senior citizens out-of-state, and am returning home to obtain full-time employment. I am a compassionate, gentle, open-minded person who has raised a son who is now in college. I educated and cared for children and teenagers for several years. As well, I have been a military wife for the entirety of my marriage and am a professional, self-assured woman. I find great joy in helping others, and can think of no better way to spend my time.
