About who needs care: Mom is 85 and has alzheimers, has lost 20+ lbs in the last 6-8 months. She does have a suprapubic catheter and frequent UTI's. August she had a kidney infection that went septic and she really hasn't regained her strength back after that. She has a walker in the home but refuses to use it. She has a Mayo home health care nurse who comes once a week and changes the catheter once a month and an aide who visits once a week. Mom is very independent, wishes to stay in her home for the rest of her life, likes to make her own meals, feed the birds/water plants outside, has 2 cats and doesn't really have any hobbies.... she worked outside the home until the end of 2022 when her health went bad so how she watches a lot of TV. Her primary care team has tried getting her on hospice (so she could be treated in the home and not the ER as Mayo home health care doesn't answer phone calls after hours) twice without success. One felt she wasn't sick enough and one felt she wasn't in a safe situation living by herself. About the care needs: I have tried playing cards with her but she's not interested. I've tried coloring books but she just looses interest quickly. She will not do puzzles or word searches..... I've tried it all. If someone can think of something she's interested in that would be great. Services needed include: companionship.
