About who needs care: Stroke and heart attack survivor. Hemiplegic, can only utilize one side of her body. Needs assistance transferring, i. e. assistance to move from bed to chair, toileting and cleaning/hygiene. Need assistance preparing meals. Has speech impairment due to stroke. Can understand instructions and alert/oriented x4. Just will mistake words often, and needs to speak slowly. Has depression. Movies and TV shows are an interest. At one time loved to sing karaoke; 80s music and grunge rock is a favorite. Worked as a bartender and ran karaoke for years. Was very social and music oriented. Likes to attend church and church social events. She is a foodie, likes new foods from new places and savor my favorites. Enjoys the outdoor (not when cold), likes going for walks, and being social with community events. Has a membership at the senior center. Getting out of the house is good for me. Recently moved to Wa. from California. Likes to sleep in - 9 a.m. wake up/medication and brunch routine; 1-2 lunch and afternoon meds; 6-6:30 dinner time. About the care needs: Assertive/self-starter personality and creative. Particularly interested in someone experienced with someone who has has cared for someone with speech impairment and/or can be patient to promote independence to communicate her needs. MUST be able to assist with transfers and toileting -- this is non-negotiable. This may require some lifting but NEVER full body weight or anything strenuous. 1 person assist to stand and pivot, she is capable of carrying her weight on her effective side. Must be able to help prepare meals. Would like someone who is involved and can try to talk with her (likes to chat), likes board games, willing go for a walk or take her to the senior center. She needs stimulation and activities to keep her busy. Services needed include: transportation, meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, companionship, feeding, bathing / dressing, and mobility assistance.
