About who needs care: Mom has arthritis in her knees, and cognitive issues. Her short-term memory and ability to tell day from night are gone. She sometimes panics or falls into despair. Her ideal day used to consist of crossword puzzles, knitting, and watching TV, and she always welcomed visits from family. Since her cognitive decline, it's been more difficult to keep her happy and interested in anything. About the care needs: We need someone to make sure Mom is safe when I cannot be with her. She needs a moderate assist when standing (she only weighs 105 lb.), help transferring to and from a transport chair or hovering when she's using her walker. She sometimes needs cueing to remember what to do next, or reassurance that she is safe if she panics. Besides someone to watch her overnight, I would also like to have some respite hours during the week. I am mostly retired, and what little I work I do is from home - I just need to be able to go out for doctor appointments, errands and visits with friends. Mom doesn't need constant chatter, so, even for the daytime respite, she'd be fine with a quiet person who is ready to help her when she needs to go to the bathroom, or redirect or calm her. Services needed include: mobility assistance.
