About who needs care: Hello, I am looking for home-based care for my 92-year-old grandfather. - He loves making jokes, chatting about his days in the military, and will tell you just about anything regarding woodworking and fixing things around the house. He is a talker :) He is also extremely bright and takes time to build trust. He can also be stubborn about wanting to do things right. - I am hoping to find someone who is very friendly, willing to listen and make some jokes, values promptness, and will help him maintain his dignity even as he is losing some of his abilities to do everything around the house independently. The candidate should be adept to working with people who like to keep their house in a certain way and level of cleanliness. Someone happy to do tasks that are simple but maybe not listed that would make him happy during your time like take a clock down from the wall so he can change the battery. This will help him feel that your time is useful. Tasks include: - Taking him to the grocery store and other stores once a week - Helping with light tidying, taking out trash, wiping kitchen, and vacuuming (we have a housekeeper who does deep cleaning once a month) - Cooking/preparing simple meal (spaghetti, meatballs, pasta and chicken), making his ice-tea - Helping write down and organize appointments on calendar, reminding him what is coming up. - Chatting to him about local news, stories, mental stimulation About the care needs: - Someone able to navigate that tricky divide between independence and needing help with dignity - Must understand he is slow to build trust and respect. Be patient and polite - Must understand he loves to joke - Someone physically fit would be preferable - If you like building things, he might be a perfect fit! Services needed include: transportation, meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, and companionship.
