About who needs care: They have early onset dementia (more recent diagnosis) and do pretty well some days not as much others. She shouldnt drive herself and physical activity is important but hard to get her to do.. so sometimes saying youre going shopping and having her walk around the mall or grocery store etc can be helpful. She enjoys watching Fox News but if it can be avoided (because a lot of times stressful! But sometimes she wont budge) I suggest nat geo (she loves ancient Egypt docs) or sitcoms (Seinfeld or Frazier etc.). She doesnt cook and is a picky eater but likes comfort food like soups sandwiches etc. she can dress and generally bath herself but may need assistance on little things from time to time. Shes stubborn and in denial of her diagnosis, so patience and friendliness is key. Her husband (my step dad) has deer season this week and we dont want her home alone all day. Im in Chicago and not sure if Im going to be able to make it to St. Louis for this, so want him to have the extra support so he can enjoy this time with his friends. About the care needs: Patience and friendliness and outgoing nature. No specialized skills except providing occasional transport if needed but she generally likes to stay home (would be nice to get her out though, she also like the outlet malls but that may be too cold as she has Raynauds- a circulation issue- and gets cold easily). She enjoys arts and crafts and watching tv and shopping. Its been hard to keep her focused on arts and crafts lately but maybe someone new could help convince her she used to enjoy it a lot. Services needed include: meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, and companionship.
