About who needs care: 93 y/o retired physician, married to 80 y/o wife with mobility disabilities. They have refused care up until now and, although near the end of life, still refuse hospice care. We are asking for comfort care at night and have already employed a full-time caregiver for the daytime (their next-door neighbor, who works at an elder care facility). Our father is very anxious and, at the least, needs anxiety meds and 24/7 monitoring and assistance. We drove here from Colorado to help, but we are both in healthcare and need to return for work Wednesday. The other two children live one hour away, but are fatigued from the last two years of them refusing in-home care. About the care needs: We are looking for patient people who understand the dynamics of very independent, resilient people, who are accepting help for the first time. The caregiver needs to be calm, professional, and know when to bend and when to be rigid. Services needed include: transportation, feeding, bathing / dressing, and mobility assistance.
