About who needs care: My brother is diagnosed with ALS. He is ambulatory and moves ok about his trailer-home. He uses a ventilator at night and should use it more and more during the day. Help lifting and moving things in the home is necessary (like moving the ventilator hose). He needs general help in his home, just little clean-up things, prep a (pre-made) meal. His condition will decline. For the next few months we hope to keep him happy and comfortable with just some home-help. When necessary, more help will be provided by Hospice when nurses are necessary. He likes to spend time on his patio, or in a comfortable chair in his living area. He often rests/naps for a few hours in the afternoon. His neighbor visits daily, but is not available every day. Perhaps 1-2 hours visit around 3 or 4 p.m. would be good. About the care needs: English speaking is important, although he likes to try his Spanish skills. A relaxed positive person. Does not have to be a 'cook', just help with keeping good snacks handy and being sure a dinner is warmed up and plated. Services needed include: meal preparation, errands / shopping, and light housekeeping.
