About who needs care: Widow who lives alone. Has pulmonary fibrosis and is on oxygen via a home oxygenator. Currently walks with a walker or cane and does not venture out of the house anymore. Wears a hearing aid, so hearing is not 100%. While not suffering from dementia of any sort, short-term memory is not as good as it used to be. Likes to spend her days reading, talking on the phone with relatives and friends, having lunch with friends and neighbors who visit. About the care needs: Ideally a caregiver who has cared for a relative at some point with similar health issues when the relative was no longer 100% independent. Caregiver would be present in-between visits / shifts from another home health aide my mother has known for years as that aide worked with my father before he passed. My mother, a former nurse, spent much of her time and energy caring for my father 24/7 before her own health began to decline not long after my father died. My two brothers and I also visit and stay overnight with my mom regularly. The brothers each live an hour to an hour and a half away, while I'm much father and must fly in. One of my brothers is a physician in Boston and oversees her health with her local physicians. I oversee all her legal and financial affairs given my background. Services needed include: companionship, feeding, and bathing / dressing.
