About who needs care: Paul is an invalid; he is unable to use his legs or sit up. He has a powered wheel chair, and a hoyer lift. He spends most of his time in his hospital bed. He is able to help rolling him onto his sides. Paul has a catheter and uses adult diapers. An average day will include checking his glucose, as well as blood pressure, and helping with insulin injection. His breakfasts are simple, and he prefers the same breakfast every day. Lunch is similar. Paul would like a daily bath in bed, sheet changes every other day, or as needed, and making sure his cup of water is full. He is very interested in conversations, and always has a great attitude. There will be occasional trips to doctors offices, however many nurses and doctors come to the house. We have a wheel chair ramp-equipped van. Most trips you will accompany us to the doctor; rarely will you be asked to take him somewhere without one of us. About the care needs: You need a good sense of humor to hang out with Paul! He loves to laugh. He is very easy going. He is the most solid dude I've known (I am his nephew). You mostly need to be able to change his Depends, and make sure he gets food when he wants. He takes his own medications on time, but occasionally there will be a PRN. Services needed include: meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, feeding, bathing / dressing, and mobility assistance.
