likes magazines, books, hats, dogs, horses, and fish. Also, he likes to channel surf/flip channels on the TV and can follow simple commands (bring me your shoes, get your backpack, lets go, etc). He knows how to give HI-5 and constantly smiles. He is strong and tends to grip tight. This is mistaken as aggression but thats his way of communicating as hes speech impaired/nonverbal; he does the pointing gesture to express his needs/wants. I tend to say be gentle and/or be calm and he does the petting gesture (rub your arm) to put him at ease. He nods his head Yes/No. He makes noises and mumbles MAMA; very affectionate (loves hugs). He tends to put things in his mouth that belong (paper, food off the floor, etc). He has a hefty appetite and will eat if you let him, so I try to monitor his food portions; will eat food if its left unattended. Toileting/grooming requires assistance. Typically, he gets up and go to the restroom if familiar with his surroundings. Being on schedule or routine helps him get adjusted to new environments. He does not have a sense of privacy. He also does gag and picks at his gums when he is overstimulated. About the care needs: A caregiver that's friendly nice and has patience. Not easily quick to get frustrated.
