About the job

About who needs care: Earlier this year we almost lost my mom because she had developed a blood clot in her lungs. If my daughter and their other roommate had not gone into her room to check on her that morning as one of them usually does before they headed to work; they would have found her quite possibly dead. When they gave her no choice on going to the hospital by them taking her or them calling an ambulance; the ER Dr's after doing an xray stated it was a miracle she'd even made it to the hospital and ordered that they set up the cath lab to remove the clot. Our family doctor whom I had notified that she was headed to the ER sent me a photo that the Dr who removed the clot had sent him. Laying on a paper image of the lungs was a blood clot that had filled every area of her right lung and about half of her left lung & and they had been able to slowly and methodically remove that clot in one piece too! She went to a physical therapy care facility for almost 2 months to regain her strength. We had given her a choice, the PT care facility; or I cone over Every day and stay with her, making her walk every day and do her breathing treatments and breathing exercises; or she agrees to go to the care facility. She chose the facility because she didn't want to deal with me getting on her about walking and doing her breathing exercises. Now, we have a new stressful issue in addition to an original issue that she has basically refused to do. The original issue was that she was supposed to make an appointment with a dermatologist to have a biopsy/removal of this "growth" that appeared a few years back right against her nose. It will get big for a while, then shrink. Dr's don't know if its cancer, benign; or a cyst. The new issue is that her teeth have started falling out and its made it hard for her to eat unless she literally blends her food to a mush consistency. She's lost weight because its hard for her to eat. (The weight loss though isn't a bad thing, she's 5'10" but, she's also overweight and we have tried for years to help her but things always fall through.) I can't help her as I have EDS, along with Degenerative Disk Disease, a Reversed Curvature of my C-Spine; and mobility/balance issues. My daughter does what she can, as does her best friend who moved in because she needed a place and offered to help with meals, groceries and even offered to help bath my mother as she had worked at a care facility doing such things. However, she is looking at moving in with her boyfriend so she's not arround like she was. My daughter can not physical help her grandmother because ( thanks to me and my genetics from my father's side) has h-EDS & v-EDS as well as P.O.T.S. Plus, she is owner and sole trainer currently at her dog training & bording business and specializes in Service Dog Training. Plus, when she gets home, she has to let her dogs out, and go feed her chickens and her horse before she can do anything else. If she's having a bad health day, that's a huge struggle for her to do by herself. Right now I am just looking as this has to be discussed with my daughter as well as my husband. My daughter, thanks to her biological father has HUGE trust issues where it comes to letting someone she doesn't know come to the house and my mother doesn't help the issue because she has a Bad habit of allowing the Instacart delivery people come Into the house to put her grocery order in the kitchen and help her put things up too. Often times when she does it, she will even invite them to say hi to the dogs as well as see the horse and chickens too. *sigh* she doesn't stop to think that A: she's putting her safety at risk, and B: putting the Instacart shopper at risk if they happen to be terrified of extra big dogs too. You see, my daughter has 2 large dogs, one that is AKC classified & registered as a Giant Alaskan Malamute that is Literally 3ft tall when he is standing on all 4 paws measured from floor to top if his shoulder blade. He is also, 11yrs old now and, was my daughter's First Service Dog for herself and how she caught the love for dog training thanks to a fantastic guy that helped with obedience training and showed her how to train tasks that would help her dog help her. Next is her female Great Dane who took over as her new SD when she retired her Malamute. She's 9 and has since been retired too. Next largest is her Livestock Guardian dog, a Great Pyranees, then there's her working class border collie, her lab/golden retriever boy that was originally supposed to be her new SD but he just never truly alerted plus, her ex boyfriend totally babied and spoiled the dog. Thanks to a friend who promised her a poodle puppy when he studded out his registered male poodle; she now has a handsome poodle boy who's i want to say a year old now. He has been showing great potential with alerting etc., though because he is still young, he has some fear moments as well as the typical puppy "play with me, pet me, say hi to me" moments that will take time and age to work through. Lol So, the person we will need, needs to be someone who isn't intimidated by Big dogs, or dogs in general; isn't allergic to cats (my daughter also has 2 cats lol); doesn't mind dealing with a 70+ yr old woman who Might get snippy, bitchy, or even manipulative too. Who will also bold face Lie too when she doesn't want to do something or tries to claim she Did do (take her meds, bathe, eat; etc.) something. Some of that is memory related yet the Dr's don't not feel she has Dementia, partly because of the fact she will play her manipulative mind games often with us. My mom used to be a Phenomenal cook and baker too. However her mind isn't what it once was and she will often forget she was cooking or baking something till she or my daughter or their roommate smells something burning. Sad because really, she was one heck of a cook and baker. So much so that when she worked, any party that was done, it was automatically decided that she'd bring a desert as well as a main dish and side dish. Cooking/baking was something she really loved doing; a Lot. She is also an Indy NASCAR fan lol as well as horse racing, show jumping, dressage And, Rodeo fan too. The reason for the horse love is because as a teen, she did dressage and show jumping events. She also enjoys the Olympics, be it figure skating, gymnastics, show jumping etc. She will literally shush a person or tell them to go away while watching. Lol That's about it, oh well, she used to be an LVN Many, Many moons ago; and she worked as a Correctional officer for TDC, for 20 years, first 10 at the Mountain View Correctional facility in Gatesville, Tx; then transfered to the Goree Unit on Huntsville, Tx. She "retired" as a CO3, and then ended up working doing data input on inmates for like 5 or so years, "retired" sorta only to be told about a Use of Force review officer position and ended up doing that for like 3 or 4 years I believe before FINALLY retiring after 65. Only other thing she enjoys doing is reading. I'm sure I've missed some things but that's what meeting up and chatting/asking questions is all about! Lol About the care needs: See previous answer. Only other thing would be if they were knowledgeable in accessing ports should my daughter need someone to access her port because she couldn't. Its a port for accepting hydration fluids. That and maybe know a pharmacy that deals in providing hydration therapy supplies for POTS/EDS patients that need to do hydration treatments at least twice a week. That and maybe offer to help my daughter if they see she's having a bad health day and struggling to feed the dogs, chickens(& collect/search for eggs); and horse. That and again be someone who Loves animals and not afraid of Big dogs nor has any allergies to cat or dog dander etc. Services needed include: transportation, meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, companionship, feeding, and bathing / dressing.
