About who needs care: My parents are 95 (mother) and 99 (father) and have remained independent and in their own home. This year, they both have declined and require full-time help. I have been doing a lot as well as part-time help, but now need full-time care. She has neuropathy and arthritis that impacts her mobility greatly. She can use a walker to get around the house, and the live on one floor with no steps. However, she needs to be assisted in and out of chairs, bed, and the toilet. She needs help with grooming and hygiene, and has difficult getting in and out of our walk-in shower so now mainly requires sponge/chair baths. She also has dysphagia and requires pureed diet, level 4, with supervision, as well as thickened liquids. Cognitively, she is sharp and has a great sense of humor, but there is decline with short term memory. She needs help taking her meds, given with applesauce. She likes to read and watch movies. My father is much more mobile, but he is getting increased neuropathy in his feet. He gets around the house very well. He needs checked on to ensure he is eating lunch or a small meal during the day. Also needs help with remembering his meds. They really want to stay in their home. About the care needs: My parents are very quiet and private, so we aren't looking for someone to entertain them, but more being kind, patient. My father is hard of hearing and so they need to communicate with him even when he is wearing hearing aids. Services needed include: meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, feeding, bathing / dressing, and mobility assistance.
