About who needs care: Physically very well and capable but definite memory and cognitive losses. She does not want an outside caregiver but we need more breaks for the in-home caregiver and for me, who has been coming every morning for over a year. The ruse is that the in-home caregiver (son, 69) has an chronic problem with his hands and needs a break from house work to allow them to heal. About the care needs: Quiet and yet positive outlook. Patient with trouble finding words and repeated questions, including those of a personal nature (you can make up your answers!). Able to work in the background "keeping busy" but ready to shift into having coffee together, making a small meal to share, or going for a walk together, or reading aloud from the newspaper. We envision this to grow into more personal care needed in future. Currently she still refuses any offers for help with bathing or other hygiene, and seems to be managing, but just barely. Services needed include: meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, and companionship.
