About who needs care: I'm helping a relative look for elder care assistance. The person (Dad) is in their 80s and lives with their wife (Mom), son and daughter-in-law. Dad has limited mobility and uses a walker. He has had more frequent falls in the last month or two. This is new. Dad occasionally needs help toileting and remembering to turn off the faucet after washing hands. Mostly though, Dad sits in an armchair watching tv and dozing off throughout the day. Son, who is primary caregiver, is looking for someone that can pick up groceries and bring them over, then sit with Dad while Son takes Mom out for socialization (mall-walking, haircuts, etc.). This would likely be 2-3 hours, one day per week. While this all sounds simple enough, it will take some time for Dad and Mom to grow comfortable with the idea of a stranger in their home and being alone with a stranger. Ideally, this person has exceptional emotional intelligence, experience working with people from different cultures, and is comfortable with a long road to friendship. Services needed include: meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, feeding, bathing / dressing, and mobility assistance.
