About who needs care: Mama isn't mobile and she spends her days in a recliner, in alternating positions, and sleeps in a hospital bed. Dementia has affected her memory. Despite a recent stroke, she can converse and her words come much slower so patience is key. She's a retired nurse (and an official "Black Angel" from the TB era at Sea View Hospital!) who's well-traveled and enjoys smooth jazz and anything Neville Brothers. She enjoys some morning and evening shows on TV, which can encompass much of her day. She enjoys being read to, especially uplifting things. About the care needs: A good fit would be someone who is familiar with aspects of dementia such as forgetfulness, some confusion and occasional outbursts. The best candidate can soothe her agitation and engage her with conversations to stimulate her brain. The ideal caregiver brings an openness to showing Mama attentiveness, being compassionate and communicating any concerns with us, her family. Services needed include: companionship, feeding, bathing / dressing, and mobility assistance.
