About who needs care: My father is a bright, funny 89 y/0 man who is surprisingly independent. He does not have memory issues or chronic health conditions, but he is very hard of hearing and also has spinal stenosis which is a deterioration of the spinal cushion, so it is very painful for him to walk and move around. He has a cane and a walker, but bathes and clothes himself. He tracks his own medication and feeds himself, though he should eat more frequently as cooking has also become difficult for him. He is a Veteran, having spent 42 years in the NY National Guard. He still goes shooting with his buddies on most Sundays, and goes to the R&G club most Wednesdays. His friends really look out for him and have been assisting him with transportation and helping around the house. I have two sisters, but none of us are in the Capital District, which is why we are looking for someone to come a few days a week to assist him around the house. He usually sleeps until around 9am, he eats a light breakfast and later a bigger lunch, and dinner is usually around 6/7 p.m. He enjoys watching movies and TV shows about espionage and the military. He is from an Italian family, and loves to eat Italian food, but will eat anything, he is not a picky person! He is sober and does not drink alcohol. He used to be a drummer and still has a drum kit set up in his living room. He loves to show off over the Holidays and wow his grand kids with his drumming skills! About the care needs: My father likes meeting people, so someone who is friendly, patient, and likes to hear humorous stories about the past would be a good fit. He has a large, locked gun safe in his living room, but he is not a nut job, he is an enthusiast that really enjoys the sport. He is not stubborn about accepting assistance from a care-giver, and is quite grateful for the help. Services needed include: transportation, meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, and companionship.
