The Personal Care Attendant will need to bathe, dress, facilitate toileting (a bowel program), help with urine catheter bags, perform range of motion and wheelchair to bed transfers, administer medications, and fold and put away laundry for a quadriplegic. The quadriplegic is an adult, has full cognitive function and therefore is able to personally direct the care that he needs. Some knowledge in performing a bowel program for a quadriplegic is preferable, but not necessary. Every responsibility required of the Personal Care Attendant can be fairly easily taught. However, the job is a little labor-intensive as it does require some pulling and lifting. I hope this doesn't scare anyone off. I'm pretty easy going, and we get to watch TV shows while we do range of motion.
