About who needs care: Seeking care for my uncle who has mild intellectual disabilities. He can only read and write at a low level, but formerly was able to clean his home and managed to take most of his medications. He has fallen behind keeping up on the house and has become worse about taking his meds, so we would like someone to come for an hour each day, talk with him, ensure he takes his pills and helps with clutter, dishes, and possibly laundry. He can be a little bit stubborn and sometimes resistant, like a young boy between 8 and 12, especially if he is in pain or feeling confused, but kindness and trust go a long way. He is also very thoughtful and sweet, especially when he is feeling better. He loved fishing when he was well enough to go, but his back pain is too much now. He also likes card games like go fish or gin rummy. About the care needs: Working with Ernest will require a sense of humor, patience, and some firmness and persistence. Not too sensitive or sweet, since he will try to be stubborn or possibly lie. Someone who understands intellectual disability would be ideal. Services needed include: meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, and companionship.
