About who needs care: This is a live in caregiver for my brother, who is suffering from severe depression, early Parkinson's. He needs a "babysitter" to make sure he is taking his medication in the morning and in the evening, as well as someone to prompt him to do his self care every day (showering, shaving, brushing his teeth, wearing clean clothes). Also someone to make sure he is eating and to transport him to doctor appointments and to the Kenneth Young center for drop offs, and to the grocery store. About the care needs: A male with a firm approach (not mean, just someone that seems authoritative). He is going to easily manipulate a passive female caregiver. If he has a female caregiver, it must be someone with a very firm and persuasive approach or else my brother will not do his self care. He is physically capable of the self care but due to his apathy and deep depression, he doesn't want to do it. His psychiatrist describes him as being like an 8-year-old child. You cannot ask him what he wants to do, you need to tell him "this is what is happening right now, you are going to go shower and shave and brush your teeth". My brother is only 57 years old and he cannot live alone or he will stop taking his medication and stop doing his self care. Services needed include: transportation, meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, feeding, and bathing / dressing.
