About who needs care: My sister is friendly, positive, and kind. She has a physical disability and a processing disorder as a result of contracting West Nile Virus when she was 7 years old. My family needs help caring for her. She can do many self-care tasks on her own (showering, eating, dressing, using the bathroom), but she needs someone present for safety reasons. For example, if she falls in the shower, she might not be able to get back up without help. We also need help transporting her to and from activities. She volunteers at our church and at a local old folks home. She is very positive and sweet. She has a deep desire to be productive and helpful. Her memory is not the best, she tires easily, and she has an auditory processing disorder. She often recognizes people by their voice before their face. She can see in her left eye, but her brain cannot process visual information from her left eye (if the mustard is on the left side of the fridge, she will not see it). She wants to be independent, but she still needs support. We are trying to step back a little so she can feel more independent while still providing her with the support she needs. In summary, she needs: 1. Mobility support/supervision for daily activities 2. Transportation to volunteering, the store, and social engagements 3. Someone who will be a positive and friendly companion while performing the above tasks About the care needs: Our caregiver must me a woman, since my sister has had some past trauma with men. Our caregiver must be friendly, patient, and kind. My sister loves reading, especially fantasy books like Harry Potter. She also enjoys poetry. She also loves crafts, like knitting. She strongly dislikes rom coms and romantic books. She is functioning at an approximate mental age of 11-13. She appreciates being spoken to like an equal; she is aware of her situation and is frustrated when people treat her like she might not be as smart as them. Services needed include: transportation, companionship, and mobility assistance.
