About who needs care: My grandfather has late-stage parkinsons and is wheel chair bound. He needs assistance getting in and out of bed and can no longer provide much help himself, so we use a hospital bed and a bar to facilitate transfers. He also needs supervision and at times assistance while eating, and requires help transferring between places. He uses a diaper during the day and condom catheter at night but still also tries to use the restroom during the day. He takes parkinsons medication 4 times a day, every 4 hours. He loves being outside and being around animals and family. About the care needs: An ideal caregiver would have the skills and strength to successfully transfer from between the bed, his wheelchair, the shower chair, the car and his recliner. We have an electric hoyer lift to assist with transfers. Patience, persistence, and a positive attitude is also important as he is often withdrawn and quiet and you may have to repeat things a few times to get through to him. Someone with an interest in engaging him about plants and animals would be a huge plus, as he is a biologist and still retains a lot of interest and knowledge around these subjects! Services needed include: transportation, meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, companionship, feeding, bathing / dressing, and mobility assistance.
