Looking for 12 hour Sunday shift help for my father. He lives at home in Central Village, CT 06332 (part of Plainfield, CT). Dad is 79 years old with moderate to severe dementia. He needs companionship, meal preparation, light cleaning, reinforcement of routines and everyday tasks, and other general household tasks. Things like how to operate the tv remote control, how to operate his phone, where food is kept, etc. Dad is mobile and doesn't use a walker or cane at this time. He is able to shower and use the bathroom on his own but with oversight that he's being cleanly. Needs reminder to take a shower and change his clothes. Dad has congestive heart failure and a pacemaker so he sometimes sleeps quite a bit during the day. He easily gets fatigued with the reduced heart capacity. Dad is very friendly and doesn't physically or mentally abuse his current caretakers. He can get frustrated and even obsessed with things from time to time but usually it passes fairly quickly. Previous experience with dementia will be very helpful in managing these episodes. Dad has a cat that he loves dearly that he'll ask you to find very often throughout the day. He constantly needs reassurance that the cat is ok. Cleaning the litter box once per day and making sure the cat has food and fresh water is expected. My preference is for a 12-hour shift from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. but will consider a different and/or shorter shift for the right person and right circumstance. The most important time of day that he needs care is afternoon through 8 or 9 p.m. when sundowning affects him. If interested in hearing more about the job please reach out. Salary range is up to $28 per hour, with opportunity to increase pay fairly quickly after demonstrating reliability and a connection with dad.
